The President

The Deputy President

The office of the president is charged with the following responsibilities in the administration of Kenyatta university Student Association:

  • Represent KUSA at the University Council and the Students Disciplinary Committee, unless he/she is the subject of a disciplinary hearing.
  • With the consent of the Executive Council, Congress, and the University’s management, represent KUSA at the national and international levels on issues relevant to KUSA’s interests.
  • Address, at the invitation of the University, public functions of the University; Read more on from the constitution
The office of the vice president is charged with the responsibility of:

  • In the President’s absence, assume and act on the authority and responsibility of the President, with the exception of Article 37, Section 2, Subsection f
  • Represent KUSA at meetings of the Students Welfare Committee of the Senate, the Catering and Accommodation Services Board
  • As Chairperson of the Security, Accommodation, and Catering Congressional Committee, liaise with the appropriate offices of the University for proper catering, accommodation, and security services

The Secretary General

The Finance Sectretary

The office of the secretary general is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Keep, in a businesslike manner, true and accurate records of the proceedings of every meeting of the Executive Council, the AGM, and SGM
  • Represent KUSA at the Students Disciplinary Committee of the Senate.
  • Subject to the directions of the Executive Council, maintain and have custody of all KUSA correspondence
The Finance Secretary shall have authority and responsibilities:

  • Keep true, accurate, and timely records of the proceedings of every financial transaction of KUSA
  • Ensure that every payment and expenditure is duly authorized
  • Be a mandatory signatory of the KUSA vote at the University’s Finance Department
  • Liaise with the DVC Finance and the University’s Tendering Board for the procurement of KUSA’s goods and services
  • Preside as Chairperson of the Tuckshop Balloting Committee

The Academic Secretary

The Organising Secretary

The Academic Secretary shall have the following authority and responsibilities

  • Address issues arising directly from the academic interests of the members
  • Enhance the provision of high quality academic facilities, resources, and services for world-class academic programs at the University
  • Represent KUSA at meetings of the Senate, the Senate Executive, the Library Committee of the Senate, and the Bookshop Committee of the Senate
The Organizing Secretary shall have the following authority and responsibility

  • Coordinate the activities of the Executive Council with other organs of KUSA.
  • As determined by the Executive Council, supervise the procurement of supplies and facilities for KUSA’s operation.
  • Represent KUSA at the Students Welfare Committee of the Senate and the Catering and Accommodation Services Board
  • As chairperson of the Sports, Games, and Entertainment Committee of the Congress, ensure the proper provision of sports, games, and entertainment services

Gender and social welfare Secretary

Special Needs Secretary

The Gender and Social Welfare Secretary shall have authority and responsibility as provided in the Constitution and in particular shall be

  • Represent KUSA at the Students Welfare Committee of the Senate and the Catering and Accommodation Services Board
  • Promote gender equity in KUSA and the University
  • Supervise all KUSA activities directly related to gender and social welfare and, in particular, network with organizations concerned about gender issues
The Special Needs Secretary shall have authority and responsibility as stipulated below:

  • Represent members with special needs in the Executive Council
  • Deal with matters related to the welfare of members with special needs
  • Maintain updated records of members with special needs
  • Promote the integration of members with special needs in the university community
  • Coordinate Disability Day and related activities

Campus Chairpersons

Representative of Institutional-Based and Open Learning Students

There shall be a Campus Chairperson for the branch offices of KUSA established in each of the satellite campuses charged with the following responsibilities

  • Discuss matters affecting members in his/her respective campus with members of the campus congressional delegation
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Dean of his/her respective campus in organizing KUSA activities, preparing budget proposals, and managing budget expenditures, which shall be monitored by the Deputy Dean
  • Collaborate with the Finance Secretary in managing KUSA investments and fixed assets in his/her respective campus.
The Representative for Institution-Based and Open Learning Students shall have authority and responsibility as provided in this Constitution and in particular shall

  • In consultation with congresspersons for institution-based and open learning students, liaise with the Executive Council on matters related to institution-based and open learning students
  • In consultation with the Executive Council, communicate with institution-based and open learning students on matters related to their welfare.
